Local Marine Honored for Bravery

Video will be available shortly.

1-10-05 – A McAlester Marine, back from a second tour of duty in Iraq, is honored by the Marine Corps.

Corporal Jason Sanders is credited with saving the lives of fellow troops during a grenade attack last April when he dragged three wounded Marines out of the line of fire. His bravery during that battle earned him a commendation from the Marine Corps.

However, the call to duty came with sacrifice. Corporal Sanders left his new wife to go to Iraq, missing the birth of his first child. The 22 year old says he will spend this time at home getting acquainted with his five month old son, Collin.

Sanders says he will begin training for a third mission in Iraq soon.
