EMS Crisis in Colbert

Video will be available shortly.

11-15-04- The small town of Colbert, Oklahoma is fighting to keep their ambulance service after the EMS Director was removed from his duties on Friday and several other paramedics have threatened to walk off the job.

In a special called meeting Friday evening, the Mayor removed EMS Director Jack Shackelford after just seven months of the job. Shackelford is still the town's Public Works Director.

Shackelford says he would like the job back, but also wants what is best for the city.

Colbert Mayor Virginia Parish says Shackelford was fired from the EMS position because he had too many duties with the city.

EMS service was shut down for several hours after the firing because of the absence of a director. State investigators will investigate the incident this week. The town could face losing their license altogether.

Several Colbert EMS employees have threatened to turn in their resignations over the firing.
