Alcohol Fuels High Speed Chase

1-21-05 – A man, with a history of running from the law, led authorities on a high speed chase and foot pursuit Thursday night.

A 50-year-old Sherman man refused to pull over when an officer attempted to make traffic stop around 9:20 p.m. on FM 902 in Tom Bean. Ervin Wayne Lindsey drove on front lawns, through fences and into on-coming traffic to avoid officers during the chase that topped speeds of 85 miles-per-hour.

Officers say Lindsey forced other cars off the road. Law enforcement from five agencies were involved the pursuit.

Lindsey eventually stopped near a wooded area and took off on foot. Police told First News, they tracked Lindsey in the brush by following the smell of alcohol.

He was taken into custody on White Mound Road about 25 minutes after the chase began.

The original traffic violation was minor. The officer noticed Lindsey’s 1988 pickup had more than four headlights.

Police say the suspect has evaded arrest before. There is a case against him in Mc Kinney, Texas.

Lindsey is in the Grayson County jail. He faces several charges including evading arrest, unsafe speed, and running a stop sign.
