CAMP DAVID, Md. (AP) - President Bush is hailing what he calls
the "tremendous witness" of anti-abortion marchers.

He says an America where unborn children have full legal protection "may still be some ways away." But he adds, "Even from the far side of the river ... we can see its glimmerings."

The president spoke by phone to the Washington marchers from the
presidential retreat at Camp David.

This year's demonstration marking the Supreme Court's 1973
decision legalizing abortion comes amid speculation Bush may soon
get to nominate new justices to the court.

He told the marchers that America has made progress toward what
he calls a "culture of life." He cited his signing of a ban on
what opponents call "partial birth abortion."

But Bush adds that abortion foes "need most of all to change
hearts."
