Chase Ends in Shoot-Out

Video will be available shortly.

2-3-05 – A chase spanning two counties Thursday morning ends with shots fired. One man is in the hospital in critical condition.

It began around 3:45 a.m. when authorities say the suspect caused a disturbance in the drive-thru at a Sherman fast food restaurant.

A Grayson County deputy, eating in the restaurant, went outside to investigate the disturbance. The suspect drove away and the deputy pursued.

The driver led officers through Sherman and into Denison where he took SPUR 503 to Highway 75.

The suspect continued south on the Highway at speeds of 60-65 mph. Collin County authorities used spike strips to deflate the driver’s tires. One mile later, law enforcement says he pulled into the median near the Montgomery Road exit and got out of the car.

According to Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary, the man had a gun and there was an exchange of gunfire. Authorities say the suspect, a 29 year old man from the McKinney area, was wounded in the shooting by a Grayson County Deputy.

He was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas in critical condition.

Officers from Howe, DPS troopers and Deputies from Grayson and Collin Counties were involved in the incident.

Sherman Police recovered a baggie allegedly thrown from the vehicle during the chase. According to law enforcement, the plastic bag contained pills and marijuana residue.

The Texas Rangers are still investigating.
