Sherman Prepares For Tyson Growth

Video will be available shortly.

02-04-05 - Even though the Tyson plant is still over a year away from opening, city and county leaders are planning ahead. The “Tyson Team Taskforce” has been created to help the area prepare for the potential growth that could result from the new plant.

Several issues surround the impact of the new plant. Some worry that retailers will lose employees once Tyson start hiring. In addition the plant is sure to bring new families to the area, meaning school districts will have to accommodate accordingly. Transportation is also a key issue, with the expected influx of trucks carrying Tyson products.

Tyson will begin hiring in October with average wages at $12 an hour.
