Best Buy Means New Challenges

Video will be available shortly.

2-7-05 - A major electronics chain store is coming to Sherman. Best Buy will likely be among several stores that are part of a new development north of Sherman Town Center.

Best Buy is part of phase 3 – the planning stages of the 58-acre project.

Meanwhile, at least one local retailer says they are ready for the challenges Best Buy will present for competition. Knight’s Furniture has been selling appliances and electronics in downtown Sherman for almost a century. General Manager Darren Tankersley says what the small stores may not be able to compete with in selection, they will make up for in service.

They also look to McKinney as a recent example. Best Buy moved in less than two years ago, and while economic leaders were worried about smaller businesses being forced out, they say that has yet to happen.

The phase three proposal for the shopping center development goes before the Sherman planning and zoning board on Tuesday.
