Jury Selection in Nocona Nurse Trial

ARCHER CITY, Texas (AP) - Nearly 200 potential jurors are
gathered in northwest Texas for the start of the capital murder trial of a former nurse charged with killing elderly patients, including one from Oklahoma.

The jury is being selected in Archer City, Texas, for the trial of 38-year-old Vickie Dawn Jackson, who's accused of giving deadly doses of drugs to the patients at Nocona General Hospital in Montague, Texas.

She's been jailed since July 2002 when she was indicted on two counts of capital murder in the deaths of four patients, including Everett Jackson of Terrall, Oklahoma. Everett Jackson was the grandfather of Vickie Jackson's estranged husband.

Vickie Jackson faces up to life in prison if convicted since prosecutors aren't seeking the death penalty.

The trial was moved from Montague County to Archer County because of pretrial publicity and because many potential jurors in Montague County might know Jackson or some of the victims.
