Armed robbery at Sherman grocery store

SHERMAN, Tex. -- Scary moments for Albertson’s employees in Sherman after an armed robbery. Police say the store was robbed late Saturday night.

They say a black man walked into the store carrying a semi-automatic hand gun and say he demanded money from one checker. Authorities say the man attempted to shoot one employee, but the gun didn't go off.

Police say the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and a black ski mask.

"They did hand him the cash that was in the cash drawer. It's reported that he did attempt to fire his pistol. Whether it misfired or was unloaded we don't know at this time," said Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department.

A spokesperson for Albertson’s says no one was harmed during the incident. They say staff members are trained to deal with situations like this quickly and effectively. The spokesperson also says counseling is available to store employees.
