2-25-05 – The General Cable worker’s union and management will meet Friday morning to finalize a decision on how many workers will be laid off next week.
General Cable in Bonham plans to layoff at least 49 employees on Tuesday, that number could go up after today’s meeting. A company spokesman says the layoffs are a result of decreased demand for the telecommunications materials the manufacturer produces.
This is the second shakeup at General Cable in recent months. Last August, the worker’s union went on strike for 5 days, demanding benefits and paid overtime. In the end, the company did not meet those demands, and employees went back to work.
General Cable employs around 190 people.
