Grayson Tightens Court Security

02-28-05 – Courtroom security concerns are coming to light all across the country after last weeks deadly shootings in Tyler. Grayson County has been working for two years on a plan that would revamp security in the courtroom.

The courtroom doors have been replaced with crash bars that allow people to exit in case of emergency, replacing the old doors that could lock people in. Electronic key panels that allow access only to authorized personnel are also being installed. New cameras will also digitally record anyone entering offices where money is handled.

The cost for the upgrades will be just over $300,000 and will come from a fund set aside for security purposes.

A second phase to the project is also in the works, and will include metal detectors, x-ray equipment, and building guards.
