03-07-05 – The wet/dry issue in Sherman will be the May ballot after enough people signed petitions. The future sale of alcohol could mean a boost in economic development. If Sherman goes wet, it will keep sales tax dollars within city limits, as well as become an attractive spot for restaurants and grocery stores.
The first of two issues on the ballot will be the sale of beer and wine at grocery and convenience stores. The second would eliminate the Uni-Card and club memberships. Supporters say several national chains could open up stores in Sherman if the issue is passed.
Sales tax revenue generated from the sale of alcohol would go into the general fund.
