03-08-05 – A man pulled a gun in the emergency room of Mercy Memorial Hospital around 3pm Tuesday afternoon. Daniel Pope II of Marietta held a doctor hostage after he did not help a friend of Pope’s immediately.
Pope was waiting with his friend in the ER room to see a doctor when he became impatient and demanded pain medication from Doctor George Shelton. When the doctor told him to wait, Pope pulled out a loaded gun. A state trooper was able to talk Pope into surrendering. He is now in the Carter County Jail awaiting charges.
