Grisham to Author Ada Story

3-10-05 - An Ada man who was convicted and sent to death row for a crime he didn't commit will soon be the subject of author John Grisham. The famous mystery writer heard the story of Ron Williamson when he read the man's obituary in the New Yor Times in December. Grisham bought the rights to his story from Williamson's two sisters.

It's a story that has drawn national headlines since 1999 - when Willaimson and another man were exonerated for the murder of a young Ada woman in 1982. DNA evidence set them free, and also identified the real killer, Glen Gore, who is now on death row.

Willaimson died at age 51 last year, just a few months after being diagnosed with cirrosis of the liver/

Grisham will write his first non-fiction novel about the case. Grisham told the Daily Oklahoman he will not paint Williamson as a hero, but as a victim instead. He expects to finish writing the book in about ten months.
