1-26-05 - The maker of a documentary movie about a north Texas football powerhouse is hoping to draw attention away from a hot Hollywood movie. Power, Passion and Glory was filmed during the 2002 Celina football season – a real life movie that its director hopes stays true to its intent – as opposed to Friday Night Lights.
Ken Heckmann was given full access to the Celina Bobcats during the season – watching their chase for a 5th straight state title unfold. Although the Bobcats fell short, he says the film is an accurate portrayal of Texas football and its fans. Heckmann says it’s a much more positive perspective than that seen in Friday Night Lights – which is based on a best-selling novel written more than a decade ago about Permian High School.
