MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- After A Marshall County girl was mauled by a neighbor’s dogs this past weekend, the owner of the dogs involved in the attack is sharing her side of the story. Teddy Safo has more.

The 13-year-old girl is back in school and recovering after she was attacked almost a week ago. On Friday, KXII-TV spoke with the dog's owner about the attack.

Marni Taylor is the owner of the two dogs that authorities say mauled a Marshall County teen this past weekend.

"Me and Tim Lynn would like to express our sincere apology to the child for the dog attack it could have been avoided and were truly sorry."

Since then both dogs -- a mastiff and a heeler -- have been euthanized. So has her black lab, which was not involved in Sunday’s mauling.

That Labrador retriever reportedly attacked Taylor’s brother-in-law, Kenneth Lynn, on Monday.

"She was the only one not involved in the attack...he shot that dog in self defense."

Marshall County assistant district attorney Gary Brown says there is no provision in state law that says a person can or cannot shoot a dog that attacks a person. Lynn was arrested for animal cruelty after the shooting because the lab was not dead when he dumped the animal. He was in court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Taylor says this has been a painful lesson for all involved, and she says all dogs should be chained and she apologizes for her dogs' behavior.

"All of us, including our step-son, Taylor, we just wish you to get well soon we’re glad that you made that recovery and that you’re back at school and we’re sorry."

Brown also says there is a state law which says a dog that attacks livestock can be shot, but once again there is no provision that says a person can or cannot shoot a dog in self defense.
