3-28-05 - BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) The funeral is today for the only teacher killed in last week's Minnesota school shooting.
English teacher Neva Rogers is being remembered as a person who cared.
Those who knew her say the 62-year old educator, who was not of American Indian descent, felt she was needed at a school plagued by pregnancy and violence.
Neva Rogers' son says "there wasn't anything she wouldn't have done for her students." He's not surprised to hear she stood out in the open and prayed last week, after telling students to hide from a teenage gunman.
Witnesses say Rogers stood out in the open and began to pray while students crouched under their desks in a corner as the shooter marched into the room. One says she saw the teen shoot her four times, once in the face.
Rogers' funeral is today. She is the only teacher killed in last week's rampage at Minnesota's Red Lake High School. The shooter, Jeffrey Weise, killed eight other people before shooting himself.
