DALLAS (AP) - A now-former Boy Scouts of America program director has been charged with felony possession and distribution of child pornography.
Douglas Sovereign Smith Junior of Colleyville faces a court appearance tomorrow in Fort Worth over charges filed March 21st.
Smith is accused of receiving images over the Internet in February that contained children "engaging in sexually explicit conduct."
Law enforcement officials indicated the pictures did not show children who were with the Boy Scouts organization. Smith declined comment today to The Associated Press.
Gregg Shields with the Irving-based Boy Scouts says officials are shocked and dismayed.
Shields says Smith was employed by the Boy Scouts for 39 years
and officials had no indication of prior criminal activity.
Smith was put on administrative leave after the organization learned of charges -- and then he retired.
