Early morning temperatures mixed with precipitations causing several accidents across the area. Grayson County roads began to ice over on bridges and overpasses, which caused several accidents across Texoma.
Sherman
In Sherman, three accidents were reported, including an accident that literally shut down the northbound lane of Highway 75 near Lamberth for a short time just after 5:30 a.m.
Police say a car lost control on the ice, hit a guardrail, and then a light pole. No injuries were reported.
"It was a single-vehicle accident due to ice on overpass. All night long, temperatures stayed above, but right before sun-up, everything iced over for a brief amount of time," said Sherman Police Department Sgt. Bruce Dawsey.
Denison
TX-DOT, along with other maintenance crews were out in full force sanding down the roads, but it still didn't stop a major accident at Highway 75 and FM 84 around 7 a.m.
At least seven vehicles were involved, including three 18-wheelers. Some of the cars were sandwiched in between the big rigs and the concrete median.
The driver of the passenger pick-up in the footage is David Ray Dickson of Cartwright, Oklahoma. He was flown to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, where he is in critical condition.
Another injured driver was taken to Texoma Medical Center.
Police say the highway was reopened at noon Friday.
The northbound lane was shut down for about four hours Friday morning due to this accident.
Ardmore
In Ardmore, people were using a bit of extra care on the roads Friday morning as well. Oklahoma Highway Patrol says things are looking pretty good on the major roadways with just wet conditions for now.
The side roads could be a bit of a different story, where you might run into some patchy ice.
The good news is that no major accidents have been reported so far around the area, but officials say to be sure and take extra care when driving on bridges and overpasses.
