4-14-05 - A Calera native hoping to make it big in Nashville returned to his roots on Thursday to play for thousands of people in a benefit concert. Jason Meadows grew up in Calera and has spent the last two months as a contestant on Nashville Star – a reality competition on the USA Network. Jason is now one of four finalists and brought the show with him to the Choctaw Coliseum for 5,000 anxious fans.
The crowd got quite a show – clips of the performance will air on the next episode. On April 26th, the final episode will air – Jason hopes to be the last one standing, winning cash and a recording contract.
Earlier in the day, Calera threw a parade for their favorite son. Jason has been in Nashville for several years trying to score a hit record.
Proceeds from the concert and a truck raffle go to the American Red Cross.
