One injured, one arrested in Pauls Valley shooting

PAULS VALLEY, OK - A shooting in Pauls Valley leaves one man in critical condition and another in jail Tuesday.

Police said 28-year-old Richard Griffin turned himself in to authorities last night.

He is being held on a pending shooting with intent charge.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon in the 1300 block of Hillcrest.

Pauls Valley detectives said Griffin shot 27-year-old James Garrison in the stomach during a fight.

An incident report obtained by First News states witnesses told investigators Griffin shot Garrison because Garrison was beating and choking a woman who lived in the home.

Garrison was taken to a hospital in Pauls Valley and later transferred to OU Medical Center.

"He was conscious at first, obviously we talked to him then they transferred him to Oklahoma City for surgery," Pauls Valley Police Chief Mitch McGill said. "The last we were told by the hospital is he is in critical condition."

The Garvin County Court Clerk said Griffin's bail has not yet been set.
