Former Councilwoman - Not Guilty

4-25-05 – A Grayson County jury found a former Sherman City council member not guilty of injury to a child on Friday. The jury of 9 women and 3 men deliberated 1.5 hours before finding Amy Hoffman-Shehan not guilty.

She was indicted in September of 2003. Prosecutors claimed Shehan tried to injure her then 4-year-old child on her backside while she was taking a bath, in an attempt to accuse her husband of sexual abuse. The next day, Shehan took the child to a doctor.

But a few weeks later, police say the child confessed to a babysitter that her mother was behind the abuse. It is a charge Shehan has always denied.

Sheehan served one term on the Sherman City Council beginning in since May 2002. She was defeated in a re-election bid in May of 2004.
