4-30-05- A Wilson, Oklahoma woman was killed Friday night when she was run off the road by a drunk driver on Highway 76 in Garvin County. The driver took off, but was caught a short time later.
Authorities say the driver has a criminal history of DUI's hit and killed 40 year old Connie Lyle of Wilson, Oklahoma. The accident happened on Highway 76 beween Pernell and Ratliff City.
Lyle was headed south on Hwy 76 when she was sideswiped in a near-miss by the driver of a Nissan car. The force sent her Dodge pick-up off the road where it hit a culvert and rolled almost three times. Lyle died from head and arm injuries even though she was wearing her seatbelt. Authorities first thought the accident involved only one vehicle until a passerby said they knew who hit her.
Deputies went to the home of 60 year old Buddy Ray Mitchell of Ratliff City. They found him pulling out of his driveway in a car with driver side damage. A Garvin County deputy stopped the car and questioned him. Mitchell has two previous DUI offenses and no suspended license. He could now be facing another DUI, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and first degree manslaughter.
Mitchell was booked in the Garvin County jail. He will be arraigned Monday.
