5-10-05 – A local school is taking a new approach to the old science fair. Students at Northwest Heights Elementary in Durant are enjoying a role-reversal as fourth graders become the teachers at this year’s science expo.
Fourth grade students spent months constructing huge learning labs to display Monday and Tuesday. The students guided younger elementary classes through a hand-made rainforest, a planetarium and spaceship, even a 30-foot long whale.
Teachers who helped organize the event say this style of learning is more effective than textbooks for younger students.
It took 90 students to put the expo together.
