5-17-05 – A North Texas school district decided to adopt a new and stricter dress code policy next fall. Students in Howe will no longer be allowed to wear sweatpants, wind pants, or shorts to school. The school board unanimously decided Monday night to pass a plan that will change the dress code policy; despite protests from some parents.
The initial proposal, laid out last month, would have also prohibited t-shirts. Last night, parents asked school officials to reconsider and board members agreed on a dress code that will allow t-shirts; however the shirts must be plain or striped. Logo or brand name tees will not be allowed at school.
Officials say they hope the new dress code puts a focus on school work, not the latest fashions.
Howe’s dress code was modeled after one Gunter schools approved two years ago.
