6-27-05 – This organization has helped build homes for low-income families since 1976.
But until 2003, Fannin County hadn't seen the benefit of a Habitat for Humanity Chapter and after 3 years of work, construction is underway on their very first home.
When Christie Givens heard this concrete slab would be her future home, it was a dream come true.
Christie Givens said, "I cried, I did, it was great."
Cindy Gobey, Fannin County Habitat for Humanity, said, "Christie is going to be our partner for building this home. So she will pay for the home, she will invest sweat equity in the home and it will give her and her children an opportunity to own their own home."
But getting to this point - was a lot of work.
Local chapters are very much grassroots campaigns, and Fannin County is one of the last in the area to get on board.
With the help of volunteers it's just the beginning of a bright future.
The volunteers will be out at a site in Bonham on most Saturdays, building for the next six months.
They're asking for skilled construction workers, or any volunteers, to help out.
Fannin County already has plans for a second and third Habitat for Humanity home.
