Scattered showers and storms could become strong to severe this afternoon into the evening. Primary threats are large hail and heavy rainfall causing flooding in poor drainage areas. Damaging winds are included as well and an isolated tornado possibility is very low but not eliminated.
6-17-05 – Powerful storms knocked out power and caused damage in some parts of Texoma late Thursday night and early Friday morning. In Carter County, one family is lucky to be alive after power lines crashed onto their home.
Around 2:00 a.m. a major power line source snapped off its wooden post, into the kitchen of a Springer home off highway 77. Ruth Walker and her husband heard the noise, and crawled out of a back window.
An entire string of power lines were pulled down along highway 77, leaving a few hundred customers without power.
Durant and Ardmore also reported nearly 2,000 customers without power. Crews in the Sherman and Denison area are trying to restore power to 300 people. Bonham is only reporting a few dozen homes that are without power.
Strong winds from the storm blew down trees and some street signs, but no major injuries are reporting.
