8-10-05 - A Denton County Trooper was shot during an overnight standoff in Denton County. The suspect was also gunned down, and killed.
What started as a routine traffic stop around 10 p.m. in Denton County, turned into a chase, and standoff lasting five hours. When Brian Savage failed to yield, a chase involving Denton police and Denton troopers ensued.
The chase ended in a standoff at Savage's home on FM 428 and Smiley Road, about four miles west of Selina. Savage reportedly got out of his car and ran into the home, firing shots at officers along the way. Denton Police dodged the bullets, but Denton Trooper Steven Oliver was shot in the thigh. Savage held off officers from several law enforcement units for hours, and was finally gunned down by the Denton Tactical Team right before 3 a.m.
At last check Oliver was in stable condition at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas, and is expected to go into surgery Wednesday morning. We have reports Savage had several warrants out for his arrest in Denton and Tarrant Counties.
