A monument to the troops who died in Vietnam will be in Denison later this month. The Traveling Vietnam Wall, with the names of 50,000 Americans who lost their lives, will be on display outside Denison High School beginning on July 22nd.
The Bratcher and Coffey-Murray funeral homes in Denison have been planning the experience for the last year. Today, they met for the last time to discuss final details.
The event begins in Durant where a transport truck will have a motorcycle and police escort. Friday morning, city and state officials will be present for the opening ceremonies, and after that, it's open for everyone to view.
Several hundred volunteers will be working around the clock reading the names and helping people hand-sketch names from the wall. The city is looking for about 50 more volunteers. The wall will be open 24-hours, just like the actual memorial.
The wall will be in Oklahoma City before coming to Denison, and Denison is the only city in Texas to display it.
