COLBERT, Okla. -- New details emerged Friday about a house in Colbert that remains sealed off due to mercury poisoning.

An Environmental Protection Agency scientist says they went in the house Thursday to monitor the air quality, and they found extremely high levels of mercury vapor.

Officials are currently ventilating the house with box fan and plan on going back Monday to start cleaning up.

The EPA says anything that absorbed the vapors like carpet and curtains will have to be thrown away before it will be livable again.

The man and woman who ingested the deadly vapors are still in the hospital.

Uh, anonymous...........the airspace of the house vs., say, Bryan County, is not equal- it should dissipate. Best to worry about those CFL bulbs people buy to used in their homes in a fit of feel-good environmentalism- each bulb has mercury, and you can't just toss 'em out like regular incandescent bulbs. Wait until people start having to toss out burned-out CFL bulbs- then there will be a hissy-fit from the same folks.

If they are ventilating the house with box fans, isn't it pumping the vapors into the air outside where other people might breathe it?
