GAINESVILLE, TX -- Twenty seniors received emergency storm kits Friday morning. Oncor and a local lumber company put the kits together so seniors could be better prepared this storm season.

Representatives from the electric distribution company passed the kits along with meals on wheels. Each kit has a self-powered flashlight, bottle of water, pen, a notepad, and perhaps most importantly, a sheet with emergency numbers and general storm safety tips.

"In the event of electrical outages, we want our customers to be safe. Safety is our number one priority to not only our customers, to our employees, but also to the general public" Oncor area manager Sabrina Taylor said.

The company says if you make your own emergency kit and use a battery operated flashlight to make sure you include several extra batteries.
