7-26-05 - An elderly Atoka couple was killed on US highway 75 just south of Lehigh Tuesday afternoon. At 2:55pm, Mary Louise Uber was driving a 2001 Buick in the southbound lane when she crossed the center line and hit a 2004 Ford pick-up head-on. The Buick rolled 1.5 times.
Mary and her husband, 68-year-old Robert Dewain Uber, died at the scene of massive injuries. Two-year-old Jesse Leflore of Atoka was taken to St. Francis hospital in Tulsa in critical condition with head, trunk-internal, trunk-external, arm, and leg injuries. Tyler Self-Powell, 9, was taken to an Ada hospital with head, trunk-external, and leg injuries and is listed in stable condition.
Their grandmother, 49-year-old Linda Carter, refused treatment for a possible leg injury.
State troopers say none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
