Number of Displaced Students in Oklahoma Tops 900

9-27-05 - Another 282 students displaced by Hurricane Katrina have been enrolled in Oklahoma public schools in the last two weeks, bringing the total number of displaced students enrolled statewide to 922, education officials said.

The students are enrolled in public school systems in 53 counties across the state, state Schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett said.

About 70 displaced students have withdrawn from various school districts over the last 10 days, presumably to return home or to move somewhere else, Garrett said. Of those students, 26 left Muskogee Public Schools and another 23 left Braggs, both districts that took in students from the nearby evacuee shelter at Camp Gruber.
