National Night Out

8-2-05 – The 23rd Annual National Night Out will be celebrated in Texoma today. It’s a chance for law enforcement officers to connect with their community.

A 26-patrol car caravan will drive through all 18 towns in Grayson County, stopping to visit with the communities they work to protect.

“We are showing the world that we're committed to a common cause of making the world better for ourselves,” says Asst. Chief Ron Brown, of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement agencies across Texoma will participate. In Grayson County, they’ll make 10-minute stops in each town to meet the people they serve. Several local communities are planning cookouts and entertainment. Asst. Chief Brown adds that this event shows people that their local law enforcers are approachable.

“Ordinarily, people don't see a law enforcement officer until they have a need, like if there is a call, a trauma, or a problem,” says Asst. Chief Brown.

The Grayson County caravan of law enforcement officers will start at 3 p.m. in Bells, traveling town to town before ending in Denison around 9 p.m.
