Car Slides Off Bridge, Into Water

8-21-05 - A Sunday afternoon driver took a curve too fast and wound up in a Sherman creek. The driver and three passengers made it out, but getting the car out of the water was a different story.

The accident happened around 1:00 p.m. Sunday on Ida Road, off of Highway 11 in Sherman. Neighbors say the road is full of twists and turns and has its share of serious, sometimes deadly accidents.

The Toyota was headed south when Troopers say the driver came up on a curve going too fast. He wasn't able to stop and skidded around 300 yards before hitting the guardrail and flipping over the side. The car fell 20 feet into the water.

Passers-by stopped to help the four people trapped inside and were able to help them get out. They were taken to Wilson N. Jones Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The posted speed limit around that curve is 35-miles per hour. The driver was ticketed for speeding.
