Trooper Disciplined after State Senator’s Car Wreck

11-5-05 - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Department of Public Safety has disciplined a state trooper for not investigating whether alcohol was involved in an accident in which a state senator's truck ended up in a ditch.

DPS Commissioner Kevin Ward says Trooper Jamie Futral gave state Senator Jeff Rabon of Hugo a ride home on Labor Day weekend after Futral heard a police officer's radio call about the incident.

Ward declined to disclose the level of administrative discipline taken against Futral. He says it falls below actions that are public records -- loss of pay, suspension, demotion or termination.

Futral's been a trooper about four years. Ward says he has no other incidents on his record.

Attempts to reach Futral and Rabon for comment were unsuccessful.
