11-11-05 - A pit bull attack sends an 11-year-old boy to the hospital in Atoka. Police say the boy has a fractured leg, but the dog remains with its owner.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday outside a home on West 8th Street in Atoka. An officer responded to a dog bite call and when he arrived, he found the boy pinned between a shed and a fence. Officers say the boy was trying to get away from the dog, who was chained.
The boy was first taken to the Atoka hospital, but later flown out with possible nerve damage to his leg.
Atoka police say the dog was chained and within a fenced area, as is required by law in Atoka. The boy was visiting the home where the dog lived when the incident happened. Police are still trying to determine what sparked the attack.
