11-12-05 - NEW YORK (AP) New Yorkers are pausing to remember those who died in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 four years ago today.
Hundreds gathered in a seaside neighborhood in Queens this morning to mark the anniversary.
Two-hundred sixty-five people died when the jet bound for the Dominican Republic went down in the residential neighborhood of Belle Harbor.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg told those gathered in the cold that the passage of time hasn't filled "265 empty spots" in the city's heart.
Flight 587 had just taken off from John F. Kennedy International Airport when a section of its tail tore away, causing the crash.
Within the next few months, the city hopes to choose a design for a permanent memorial to the victims.
