HUGO, OK -- An 86-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his stepdaughter in Hugo.

Coy Lee Tate, 86, of Hugo, was officially charged with murder in the first degree and shooting with intent to kill in the double shooting in Hugo last week that cost one woman her life.

On Tuesday, authorities said he shot his two stepdaughters. Jackie Maye Endemano, 63, died at the scene. Debra McKenzie, 57, survived.

The two women were visiting from California. Authorities have yet to establish a motive.

Bond has been denied.

Let me start by saying how sorry I am to have heard about this. Jackie and Debra are family. Seem to me there are allot of people on here ready to point fingers that were not there when it happen. And Debra, the only one that WAS there, has to be a lying B..ch because she is from Ca. I guess the GOD I know and love must be a different one than the one known by these people. I was always raised to believe only he had the right to judge people. All I know is allot of people were hurt by this, not just the 4 that were there. Having a living 85 y.o. father I know there thought patterns are not the same as mine. And perceived danger can be just as real as actual danger . So I will not judge Coy's actions because I do not know what might have happen, at least in his mind.

I think that oklahoma people sometimes r a bit on the looney side !!! I think that this old man is right for killing the lady, she probably deserved it !!! I also think that KXII is right for letting people address their opinions !!! Thanks Kaylee Owens

After reading about this story on KXII and several other publications, I can't help but wonder where our justice system stands. If one person says it is so, then it is so? What ever happened to Innocent until proven Guilty vs Guilty until proven Innocent. How often do we hear of people who have served several years of their lives for crimes they did not commit? Is it possible these two 86 year old people were being held hostage if not by physical force but mentally? One does not have to be physically gagged and bound to be held hostage, words that are being spoken can hold a threat which could lead someone to fear what will happen if they do not comply. Which leads us to ask could he have called the police? I know you are thinking he left the room to got to the bathroom, did he? Again this is what we have been told, therefore it must be true. We can hope that every investigative tool available is being used to determine what actually happened and that Justice will be served.

I'd like to thank "Local with Sense" and "Glad I don't live in Hugo" for their sane comments. It is really sad to see how many people on here think they know what happened apparently because the people from California must be bad and poor old man from OK must be good. People keep going on about "kidnapping" and yet no statement has been released that even Coy claims such a "kidnapping" was going on? I must admit, I am developing a very, very bad impression of OK based on the comments on this website. But "Glad I don't Live in Hugo" and "Local with Sense" give me hope that it truly isn't he majority opinion there.

Another example of how all KXII is doing by letting people comment on their stories only causes conflict and havoc among their viewers! But I guess that's what they want, what they will do for publicity!! The family of the victims are hurting enough, and I hope they never read some of the comments here. Isn't it funny that they took down all the Walker accident comments..HMMMM what they will do for publicity... this is sad....

I always knew there were some crazy's in Hugo but come on. How can you people defend what this man did? If this lady was in any danger of being kidnapped all he had to do was call police. You people are just plane nuts!!!!!!! There is no justification for what he did. Who cares if the daughters were trying to take her. That is what the police and the legal system is for. If Coy and his daughter took such good care of her all they had to do is prove it and problem solved she goes no where. But oh no we live in Hugo we just kill people! OMG this makes Texoma look so bad. Just know people it's the far east of Texoma!!!

I would like to start by apologizing to all of the people from California. I would then like to say that these people on here who are defending this man for murder are not representive of the population around here. I think they need to give this old guy a mental check and then send him to an instituion where he can spend the rest of his days. Obviously this old guy can't make it in prion but he needs to be locked away so he can't hurt anyone else. My Love and Prayers go out to everyone effected by this incident. I am so sorry to the family of these people. Please do not judge those of oklahoma because of a few nut jobs in Hugo!!!!!

No Esta did not leave to get away from Coy. She is with Family to help care for her. And I agree the daughter is a liar. And to think she calls herself a christian. She just doesn't want to get charged with attemped kidnapping. She is the one that should be in Jail.

Im so glad they denied Mr. Tates bond!!He deserves to spend the rest of his days in jail for his cowardly, selfish act!!! And to those defending his actions...come on!! Clearly, your thinking is backwards. Que estupido gente! Ignorant people....so sad :(

It's funny. On this board it's all CA vs. OK and letting a man off with a slapped hand because he's old, self-defense, protecting his family, etc. Yet on the CA news sites it is just prayers for both families. What's done is done and now it is up to the DA and/or jury. Either way, Mrs. Tate is going to CA with her closest living/non-jailed family member. Both families have lost too much to fight about it on a silly board.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Here on May 8, 2008 at 06:52 PM
Wow. I guess I'm glad I live in California for more reasons than I know. The whole attitude of 'he was protecting his home,he had the right to shoot them' is appalling and shocking to me. Protecting your home from two women, aged 62 and 57?! The daughters of the woman you supposedly love? I hope no one ever loves me that much.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 8, 2008 at 05:58 PM
on the news you could tell the daughter was a lying bit-h

I have know Mr. Coy Tate since i was 9 yr. old. I was devisated when i was told what had happen. I don't thin the daughters had a right to come here. They know they were coming to try to take the mother with them. I know for a fact that Mr & Mrs> Tate love and care for each other. I do think he felt that he needed to pretect him and her. So i feel he should be given the make my day law and her daughter go back to California . I would feel very safe to stay with Mr. Tate. He is a very loved man. And yes God knows all the truth. You need to set back and think. Would you do what ever it took to protect what is yours. So i do feel he needs to be let go. And that the daughter just needs to go. Let her mom and Mr. Tate alone. I also know that Mr Tate's daughter takes awesome care of the two

Posted by: anonymous on May 7, 2008 at 10:27 PM
Everyone seems to keep pointing out that the daughters were from CA as if that was the trouble. What would you be saying if they were from OK? Would that make them better people in your eyes? You need to broad your horizons and realize that there are good and bad people everywhere and shooting an unarmed person does NOT make you a good person. I don't care how old you are or what you've done in the past. It only matters what you did at that moment and at that moment he made a HUGE mistake and has to pay for that mistake. I understand now his wife is leaving for CA. What did the shooting get him? He's lost his freedom possibly and his wife. It is a tragedy all around for both families. Stop being so hateful towards both.

this is in reply to-Posted by: Anonymous Location: local on May 7, 2008 at 01:31 PM The daughters did not come for a visit. They told Mrs. Tate ahead of time that they were coming to take her back to California and she did NOT want to go........ no they didn't come to take her. have your facts correct! the trip was planned two months ago. coy & aunt estha knew they were coming. Aunt estha was very happy they were coming. i get my facts from aunt estha, debbie and my family! you all can believe what you want but the absolute truth is that he killed one and injured another and there is NO excuse for it. PERIOD! self defense my behind! if he felt threatened than when he went and got the gun he should have called 911 and told the cops he felt that way. then jackie would still be alive! aunt estha could have done what she wanted. noone was taking her. if she wanted to go then she knew she could. her daughters do have a right to know all about her drs. he didn't want them to know though.

Dear who? location where? since you know everything so well I guess you also know that this is a couple that from the very begining of their relationship has asked their families to respect them and let them be. They got married simply for companionship and love. They told the entire family that they want to live out the rest of their lives together so they did have to die alone. Yes I know this for a fact because I was one of the only one's from both sides of the family that has respected this. Also Esta has alzheimers and he has only been doing what is best for her at the cost of his own health for the past couple of years. I wish everyone could have just left them alone and respected their wishes. I just pray that Jackie is peaceful in heaven and not seeing all this drama. What happened was wrong yes but many things could have been done years ago and this situation would have probably never occured.

To "An'a'onymous" (posted May 7 at 6:26a.m.): "People in the midwest aren't to bright?" This "close minded" Midwesterner, who "thinks people from California are 'selfish and do exactly whatever they feel like'" would like to point out two things. 1) In the Midwest, we spell it "anonymous." (which is grammatically correct.) 2) "People outside the Midwest think that people in the Midwest aren't to bright." (another grammatical error..should be "too" bright) I may be from the Midwest, and you may THINK we are not intelligent....be careful before you take a shot at our intellectual level and make your unneeded, and unwanted, suggestions of what we, Midwesterners, should watch on television.

first of all NO her girls were not going after ANY money. you all say how in love they were. are you sure they were happy? they were not going to take her. she knew if she EVER wanted to go that she was always welcome. no matter what anyones thoughts or beliefs were HE KILLED SOMEONE! so should he just be let loose? HECK NO! you do the crime you pay the time! no if and or buts. he made a choice to go and get the gun. estha wanted her daughters there and coy knew they were coming. the trip was planned. not like they just showed up. those who think that may need to get their facts straight before you start talking nothing but nonsense. he has commited a terrible crime. he wasn't trying to defend his wife because there was nothing to defend. she was so very happy that her girls were there. i think it is absoulutely crazy for some back woods people to think that murder is ok. wth is wrong with some people? prayers for the family to get through this troubled time.

Betty, you don't go out and kill anyone for any reason, and you are taking up for this idiot, stick him in the nursing home and lock the door on him so he doesn't come out

If you dont know the truth then keep your opionions to yourself

Posted by: Betty Location: Local on May 7, 2008 at 10:57 AM
Adult children often think they have the right to "take over", trying to obtain control of their parent's health and finances. They have no regard for what is best for Mom and Dad, just themselves. Often wanting to get control of property and bank accounts "before the nursing home gets it". It is shameful and goes on daily. I'm not suprised someone got shot here....Greed is to blame here!!!

This is for everyone who feels they need to comment and have no idea what your talking about. Coy and Estha Are my family. They are so in love and very happy. Coy should not rot in Jail. He deserves a second chance.and If estha's daughters were just great christians then they didn't show it. And why did they act so selfish. Coy Is and always will be a great man. Yes he made a mistake. I don't agree with murder but I also don't think he deserves to be in jail. My heart and prayers go out to coy and his family. And if you didn't know him then you need to keep your comments to yourself. This is a hard time for our family.

Posted by: Sherry on May 7, 2008 at 09:23 AM
First degree murder is premediated. He didn't plan on killing the women. That is why he should be charged with SECOND degree murder or manslaughter. Yes, he killed someone and should be punished but FIRST degree murder is excessive!

Posted by: Me Location: Durant on May 7, 2008 at 09:08 AM
I can't believe anyone is trying to defend this man for murder. I don't care how nice he was he killed someone and tried to kill someone else. This man must not of been in his right mind. Maybe he had dimentia. He need to get help but does not need to be let go so he can flip out and kill someone else. What could those old ladies have done to warrant shooting them? Come on. Did they try to beat him up? This is crazy to defend this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Man. Protecting his wife and home. Pray for all

Posted by: Erick Gent Location: Denison on May 7, 2008 at 08:41 AM
Is it possible this man could be suffering from some type of mental illness? Everyone keeps talking about what a great man he was, but he was capable of committing murder (that is not the characteristic of a great man). In fact, that is pretty extreme for a great man. Something just does not seem right. Someone said on another post that he should have called the police if he wanted his stepdaughters gone not kill one and attempt to kill the other. I agree, the situation could have been defused without taking a life and trying to take another. I have read so many different scenarios; I don’t know what is true. But the bottom line is, this “great” man committed a horrible crime and should have to pay the consciences no matter what age he is. But, I still wonder if he is suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s, or something along those lines.

Posted by: A Friend of Debbie's Location: California on May 7, 2008 at 07:33 AM
Those of you who know the murderer seem to think that because the two women came from CALIFORNIA to care for their mother, that it's ok for them to be shot & killed by Mr. Tate if he didn't agree with them. Why does anybody need to settle an argument with a gun? Why would this old man feel it's necessary to KILL one of his wife's daughters? How on earth can you defend these actions? Because these were California women? Get over your bigotry! Open your eyes to what happened. And by the way, this wasn't his home to defend, this was his wife's home too, the mother of one woman he murdered and other he tried very hard to, but failed to murder.

Posted by: Judy Location: SC on May 7, 2008 at 06:37 AM
He obviously felt threatened and had to defend himself!

Posted by: ananymous on May 7, 2008 at 06:26 AM
You think everyone from California is selfish and do exactly whatever they feel like? You need to get out more and stop watching the fake shows on TV. Talk about closed minded. You wonder why people outside the midwest think people in the midwest aren't to bright. This is a good example. Good reason to kill someone?

Posted by: Anonymous on May 7, 2008 at 12:18 AM
protect his family!!??? great job. one step daughter is dead, one is injured and his wife is now leaving the state. oh and by the way hes in jail. sure know how to protect your family. I think the lesson is that he and the person who wrote the last comment have no idea what protecting a family means.....i supose we'll just have to wait for their mug shot too.
