ARDMORE, Okla. -- We showed you last night at ten o’clock some of the damage Wednesday’s strong winds caused in Ardmore. Many people discovered more damage when they showed up to work Thursday. Robin Beal reports from Ardmore.
Students and staff at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center were treated to a new look today courtesy of Wednesday night's strong winds. The building has been standing since the 1960's. Now it will need a new roof, at the least. The overhead doors in another building on campus didn't fare much better.
Downtown Ardmore was hit hard as well. John Dinwiddie, an employee at a furniture store, said it all.
"Basically, just high winds just came and just pushed the window out, and I just heard a loud crash and just came in. And everything was all messed up."
They were just a couple of people who had to stay late or go back to work to clean up, and board up.
The Ardmore Fire Department had a busy night as well, with downed power lines, some still very much live.
It was a dangerous situation. Just getting around was difficult, with trees blocking streets and traffic signals knocked out.
But blue skies and spring in the air Thursday served as reminder of just how fickle nature can be.
One of the reasons we wanted to show some of those pictures from last night again: a lot of people were without electricity for several hours, so naturally they just couldn't watch our reports on television.
OG&E says there were as many as 2,500 homes in the dark well into the night. For the most part, everything is back up and running Thursday.
