SHERMAN, Tex. -- The Pregnancy Care Center of Sherman is holding its first ever 'Straight Talk' event this weekend. It's a seminar for mothers and their daughters to talk about sex, abstinence, and self esteem.

The goal of the seminar is for young girls, ages 11 to 18, to become comfortable with their bodies and learn that it is okay to say ‘no’.

"They're getting a strong message of truth and respect for themselves, as opposed to what they hear in the world and what the message is from society." abstinence educator Nikki Roland says.

"Because issues such as integrity, modesty, and purity will be addressed, she will see a room full of girls she can turn to who are also trying to set the standards for themselves," abstinence presenter Christy Baca says.

The event is this weekend at Sherman Bible Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $7.50 each. For more information, call 903-893-9099 or check www.shermanpregnancy.com.

You know this is a something schools and churches have tried to teach us for years. abstinence this abstinence that, well all that talk really wont help young girls to not do it. It didnt stop from not doing it, or half of my friends either. but have at it go ahead and try, but you are just wasteing your money and time.

If parents now days would teach their children what is right and what its wrong instead of leaving it up to someone else to do it they wouldn't have to have this seminar, parents now days don't care what their kids do

Abstinence only education has proven to not work and actually increases the risk of STD's. I hope these people will really give these kids a straight talk and not just you shouldn't do it.

This is really a great thing to do but with the way things are today, I'm not so sure it shouldnt be for girls as young as 8. The kids are sexually active at such a young age and so many kids are being forced to grow up so young because parents are both having to work and dont have time to be with their kids like parents used to. Which in turn is leading to younger girls having sex.

You're target audience should be low income families. By charging 7.50, you are leaving them out of this opportunity. Nice try, you're heart's in the right place, but you're preaching to the choir!

Maybe if all these teenage girls would stop dressing like they're trying to "advertise" themselves...

I wish my 3 year old grand-daughter could go to this seminar because I'm afraid of what her biological mother is teaching her now!
