10-4-05 - Nearly 400 striking teamsters will continue their march outside Weber Aircraft after voting to not accept the company’s proposal on Monday afternoon. The workers walked off the job on September 21st to protest a contract they say could outsource jobs.
After two months of talks, Weber Aircraft and Teamsters Local 767 ended negotiations at 11 p.m. on September 20th. Union workers say their problem is with the new contract that would allow Webber to outsource jobs, potentially leading to layoffs.
Over half of Weber's 750 laborers are union workers, and they say they are willing to go back to the table, but they don't want to be out of work for long.
Weber Aircraft is the leading manufacturer of airplane seats. For the past 10 to 15 years, they have peacefully negotiated with the teamsters union.
