I-35 Opens All Lanes for OU/Texas

10-5-05 - Northbound and southbound I-35 is currently open to two lanes each direction and will remain completely open through this weekend for the OU vs. Texas football game in Dallas.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has relied on lane rental special provision terms in its construction contracts for years to complete work before such heavily traveled weekends as the Red River Rivalry and Thanksgiving.

Starting Monday, October 10 until Tuesday, November 22, southbound I-35 will narrow to one lane from exit 1 to the Red River Bridge (1.5 miles) for pavement reconstruction. This work will cease before the Thanksgiving holiday to facilitate holiday travel on I-35.

Motorists should still allow extra time on their I-35 travel this weekend or choose an alternate route on either US-81 or US-75/US-69. Even though all lanes are expected to be open, motorists should be aware of the heavy traffic expected with the football game and the Texas State Fair also being held in Dallas.

Various lane closures will occur after OU/Texas weekend and continue until the end of 2005. In January 2006, construction will commence in the construction zone just north of the Red River, narrowing I-35 to one lane in both directions until its completion in Fall 2006.
