Istook Hits Campaign Trail In Ardmore

10-4-05 - Oklahoma Congressman Ernest Istook made the big announcement Monday that he wants to be Oklahoma's next Governor. Tuesday was his first day of campaigning as Istook and his wife Judy made a stop at Ardmore's downtown airpark.

Istook started fundraising on October 1st and says it will take several million dollars to see his bid through.

He says if he wins, he hopes to create more jobs and will research the medical, weather, aviation and telecommunications industries to make it happen.

He says people are moving away from Oklahoma and blames the present governor saying Brad Henry is not a good leader.

Istook says he will also work to improve roads and education.

"Long term, I want Oklahoma to achieve its potential," Istook said. "And be a state of excellence. It's not enough to have a situation where people leave the state seeking better options. I want to keep our kids, I want to keep our grandkids here."

Ardmore is just the second of eight stops taking Istook all over the state.
