SHERMAN, Tex. -- A Sherman woman is fighting for her life after being badly burned in a house fire Monday morning.

It happened in the 300 block of Lee Street around ten o'clock Monday morning.

The name of the 60-year-old woman who was hurt has not been released at this time.

Sherman Fire Chief J.J. Jones said the woman was using a space heater when her clothing caught fire. The flames then consumed most of her body. She is said to have second and third degree burns on 60% of her body.

"Her clothing caught fire, she suffered second and third degree burns to about 60% of her body. She is being transported to Parkland Hospital at this time by air ambulance," Jones said.

There were three other people at the home, none of whom were injured. A relative who was in the house poured water on the woman to extinguish the flames.

"There was very little fire damage done to the house, but obviously a very tragic situation. The loose clothing and the space heater combination did not have a good outcome this morning," Jones also said.

Her condition is unknown Monday evening.

You're right! Just wondering if that was what was really said. Sometimes local media gets things very wrong... I do wish this lady to recover, and hope god blesses her. Nothing is more painful or hard to recover from than a burn. I apologize to all for any offense. Thank goodness no one else was hurt.

To Anonymous: Yes, consumed is the correct word to have used in this story: The flames consumed most of her body with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on most of her body. It is common terminology used in fire reports. And does it really matter? The poor woman caught fire and is in critical condition and all you have to worry about is appropriate word usage in the news coverage? Get a life. God bless this poor woman and speed her recovery.

When you look at dictionary.com, the example they use for the word consume is "fire consumed the forest". Anyway, more importantly, let's all pray for a speedy recovery for this poor lady. We wish her the best.

Consumed? Was that really the wording the fire dept used? Bad choice of words. Consumed meaning nothing left...
