WHITESBORO, Tex. -- Another copper theft has been reported north of Whitesboro at Sandusky and Brumlowe Road. This time, it cost Union Pacific Railroad about $5,000.

Someone stole several wooden spools of the copper wire, took the wiring, and dumped the spools.

The railroad estimates it was a total of more than 3,500 feet of copper, which can sell for around $4 per pound.

How about with all the copper thefts, maybe not leaving the stuff so accessible also? And do you honestly think that these thiefs are bringing in all 3500 feet of copper at once? Unlikely I imagine so why would they question smaller amounts that may be brought in by several different people at different times, and most likely to several different scrap yards within or out of the area.

With all the copper thefts happening lately I have to ask one question. What is being done by local recycling companies to aid the police in catching these crooks? When you keep seeing these same people turning in copper wire, pipe, compressors etc... shouldn't someone make a point to notify the police?
