OKLAHOMA – It’s been a busy night of local elections, with several school bond propositions on the ballot in Southern Oklahoma.

We start out in Hugo, where an $11,000,000 school bond fails. Proposition one, which would allow for construction of a new high school and other district improvements was shot down by 63% of voters.

Proposition two, which was $155,000 for buses and transportation also fails with 65% of voters saying no.

A similar bond failed in 2005 and reportedly has never passed in the history of the school district.

The people of Hugo do not trust the administration. Why should they get 11 million dollars if they can't even keep a Principal or A Super?

A new High School is not going to stop Hugo from losing students every year to other schools in the County. Plus a 40% increase on taxes WOW!!!!

the people who ran the campain for this issue are really to blame. A. With the way things are today can you really expect people to actually vote to raise taxes 40%. B I have never seen an audit of Hugo Schools published in the paper. How does the public really know what kind of financial shape the school is in ? What amounts are in their budget now? Could it be managed better?

How does it keep families from moving to Hugo? How does it keep the district from attracting more qualified teachers? And how does it send an awful message about the city's attitude towards its future?
