10-9-05 - A record number of Oklahomans are filing for bankruptcy this year. On September 30th alone, nearly 300 bankruptcies were filed at the US Bankruptcy Court in Oklahoma City.
Before September 30th, the greatest number of daily filings had been 130.
Officials say hundreds of financially strapped Oklahomans are seeking protection before October 17th when new federal rules will make it tougher to wipe out debts.
Officials say the reforms are the biggest overhaul to bankruptcy law since 1978.
