DURANT, Okla. -- We’re approaching the time of year when blood banks are most in need, so to help meet their requirements, people in Durant were ready to help out with a blood drive.

The event wasn't all business though. It was a competition between city and county employees. Lou Ann Scott of the blood bank says she's happy to have over 60 donations Friday, no matter the reason.

"The blood need is 24-7, and unfortunately it doesn't take a holiday break like most of us. Blood usage increases and donations typically decrease this time of year," Scott said.

The loser of today's competition will be announced Monday and will have to wear a t-shirt saying the other group gives more.
