ATOKA COUNTY, OK -- A 16-year-old died in a four wheeler accident Thursday evening in the Atoka County town of Crystal.

Autumn Weist, 16, of Boswell, was riding her ATV at unsafe speeds down a country road around 7:30 p.m. in the community of Crystal east of Lane, Oklahoma, when she met a pickup truck driven by 56-year-old David Doshier at a curve. When the two collided, Weist was ejected from the ATV and died at the scene.

Doshier and his passenger were not injured.

When are people going to learn that "Off Road Vehicles" really do mean "Off Road"? Seems like once a month there is someone getting killed or badly injured on an ATV in Southern OK. Wear protective gear and stay off the streets. That's not asking too much... or is it? My prayers go out to all that are involved.

My thoughts are with your family. We lost my 13yr old brother in July 2000. It saddens me to see someone go through what we have been through. God bless

I just want to say that my heart goes out to the family who lost their daughter and the driver of the pickup. I really don't know what to say, except I know what it is like to have young children who think that they are invisible.. My oldest son was always driving our ATV at a unsafe speed, so we sold it before something terrible happen... I hope that the parents of this young girl can use this as a learning tool to help prevent this tragedy from ever happening again. Your in our prayers..

I am the father of the child that was killed. I thank all of you for your comments, whether good or bad. She was very happy about going to the sand drags and spending the night with her friends. she was on her way back from a friends house on a dirt road and was driving a bit fast, and hit a pickup in a blind curve. Noone can be at blame for this freak accident. All i can say is that my daughter is at peace and is not in pain. She didn't suffer at all she broke her neck. Thank all of you again

Well you can never predict anything like this. I was on the phone with her 30 min before it happened. I am her brother-in-law and I've had a hand in raising her as i picked her up from school on Friday and took her home on Sunday every weekend. She was very intelligent and a wonderful person. She was a Christian and was a good student. Not one person can say they have never tried anything in there life as driving to fast or doing something that they when it was done decided not to do it again. I personally spoke with the OHP officers who worked the scene and I also know them personally being I work at the local Sheriff Office. She was driving a little to fast but you cant take back what has happened. The only thing we can do is remember how beautiful her life was and I personally feel that it was her time. You know if its your time it doesn't matter if your lying in bed or driving a car or 4 wheeler its just your time. Thank you for all your prayers!!!!!

Well, Autumn was a great girl.. I moved away this school year and when I got a text message saying she was gone, Woah it shocked me. She really was a nice girl, she always laughed and put people in a good mood. Like now, I can remember her silly laugh. It must have really been her time because God was already aware.

how do you even begin to expres how sorry you r for the family n friends of this young gurl. she was so young n had a full life ahead of her! it is so sad she left this earth so soon! i dont agree with some of the thing bein said in some of the comments below. espesally the one from michael...so inconsiderate have a little respet! yes she was goin to fast n wasnt wearin any gear but kids will be kids n they will do what they want. how would u feel if this was ur child these comments were about? you wouldnt like it at all! she made a mistake n one that cant be changed so why harp about it? Autumn may u rest in peace...for the family i am very very sorry for your loss...it will be tough but try to stay strong threw this horrible time in ur lives! im so very sorry!

I feel very sad for the loss of this child. When is it going to be enough. Parents need to realize that ATV's are NOT toys. Kids need to be educated on the proper attire and useage. Helmets need to be enforced by the parents and children do not need to be left unattended at ANY time. God be with your family.

It is sad that some people think that these types of vehicles are toys! I have seen far too many young people riding these things with no gear, with multiple people aboard and of course at insane speeds in areas that are not suitable. I am really sorry to hear of yet another death than has happened because of poor choices on several levels. I hope that this can be a learning experience for everyone in the community.
